"This municipality is located near Geneva and is divided into three villages between the Salève and the small Salève (village of Monnetier), on the southeast slopes of the Salève (village of Esserts-Salève) and the Mount Gosse ( village of Mornex). The village of Mornex extends to the bottom of Mount Gosse, on the edge of the Arve and at the junction of its tributary, the Viaison.


Sanctuary

"The site Monnetier-Mornex was inhabited by the Allobroges around 300 BC. BC, which left their traces on the archaeological site named "Camp des Allobroges" on the Small Salève.

"In 2012, the municipality had 2338 inhabitants. The evolution of the number of inhabitants is known throughout the population censuses conducted in the town since 1793. From the xxi th  century, actual census municipalities with fewer than10,000 inhabitants are held every five years, in contrast other towns with a sample survey every year.

"The German composer Richard Wagner stayed in 1856 in Mornex where he composed some of his famous opera Die Walküre." (Link 1.)
